Mister Ed…

“A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.”

Interestingly my horses, who don’t actually talk to me, seem to have far, far more horse sense than the famous Mr Eddie MacGuire.

In fact if I was doing a comparison between my horses arse and Mr Ed MacGuire’s commentary, in every way my horses arse would appear superior.

I have chided Mr MacGuire on this blog before. In fairness, by now, one could assume that I might have some sort of “set” against him for the openly misogynist, racist, homophobic and just downright dumb public comments he makes which offend, distress and hurt many of my nearest and dearest, but really I see that in many ways MacGuire is doing us all a big favour.

 

For afterall, MacGuire in his commentary, exposes himself for the doyen of aspirational middle class Australia that he is, his words echoing the thoughtless, conceited and privileged voice he represents.

I am not sure about you, but it never fails to surprise me that someone with such a limited capacity to see the damage that spouting such assinine dialogue as Mr Ed has just done recently, in regards to paying money to witness the drowning of a female journalist in ice cold water, manages to maintain an almost inviolable position in Australian society.

So much so that Australia’s present Foreign Minister, Julia Bishop dismissed his rather revealing words as “silly remarks”.

Now while I find this perplexing, as I personally have never had any problem calling a fool, a fool, the only reason I can conjure for Bishop’s obsequious response is because she too is a product of the same aspirational forces that formed Mr Ed.

That we are living in the fiction of a “nation” which is slowly and inexorably, finally, coming to the understanding of the clash of its original people and its original culture with the likes of Mr Eddie MacGuire, a culture that revered women as matriarch and mother and was noble in its treatment of both, the stark difference that Macguire has exposed for us all to see is astounding.

His understanding of a woman that criticises him, is that of a “black widow” who will “suck you in”, his characterization of a brilliant and imposing black athlete as “King Kong” exposes his fear… All in all Mr Ed is the stereotype of a frightened white man who has little control over his thoughts… and no control what so ever over the ramifications his words in public will have…

It goes wthout saying that Mr Ed’s horses arse comments about wagering a bet on drowning a woman are despicable. That they will be observed by some other person of his ilk and possibly filter into the brain of some equally irresponsible man that may just  perpetrate violence on a woman is almost inevitable. The shock is why is this creature, Mr Eddie MacGuire, still in the public sphere? Why would anyone give this person airtime?

Perhaps because its not so secretly, what they all think…

Well my image for today says it all really… I would prefer the dialogue with a real horse than anything that Mr Eddie MacGuire could ever come up with
